L'Arche Dublin

Seolta Sign L'Arche Dublin began in 1993 in a rented cottage in Portmarnock, a small village on the northeast of Dublin Bay. On St. Brigid's Day, 1st February, 1994, the first core members were welcomed. A permanent home for the community became possible when the Christian Brothers donated some land in Baldoyle. Money was raised and in 1996 a new home—Seolta, Irish for "sails"—was built. It is home to five core members [people with intellectual disabilities] and the assistants who share thier home with them. In 1999 a second home—Leoithne, Irish for "Gentle Breeze"—was purchased. It is home to three core members and the assistants who share thier home with them.

Home Life

Dublin Picnic L’Arche Dublin strives to provide a home that is warm and welcoming for all who live there. Our lives are full! We do the usual things like shopping, cleaning and of course, having parties!.
Celebration is very important to us. We enjoy celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. In fact, we often find lots of other reasons to celebrate and have a party.
Our community has a short prayer break in our community prayer room each morning and we have daily prayer in both of our houses after supper. We also have a community liturgy the second Tuesday of every month to which not only L'Arche community members but the wider community is invited, as well.

Welcome to the Dublin Workshop (Creative Space)

Dublin Workshop L'Arche Dublin operates a small crafts workshop called "The Creative Space" that serves as a supplement to our core members' regular daily workshop programs attended outside of the L'Arche community. The Creative Space offers core members the opportunity to explore their creative side. This may be by participating in traditional arts and crafts projects such as making greeting cards, jewellery, drawing and painting. Workshop Activity Along with the traditional projects, the Creative Space also engages core members through in other activities designed to engage the member such as nature walks, creating music videos or music compilation CD's and cooking. Core members also visit local craft shops, choosing products and conducting transactions, when supplies are purchased.
All of these activities engage the member in the wider world along with providing a greater sense of self value.
